60 hour and 40 hour TEFL certs…turned assignments into tutor; had to write lesson plans and graded by tutor


• Sent resumes in after her pastor said he had contacts
• She got interview for grade 5
• Nonimmigrant B visa Thailand – can be here 3 months with understanding that you’ll get the permit
     o They paid for it $80 total
     o School paid for $760 towards plane ticket
• Lots of paperwork/hoops…passports, criminal background check
• No teacher training; required to have Thai culture training
     o INCLUDE CULTURE TRAINING IN IT
     o Would be better off yes; sitting in on a class would help
     o BIGGEST ISSUE IS CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
        - She teaches 10 and 11 year olds…she bases hers on point systems with students who
        - Promise food and they’ll do whatever you want
        - Children, give them food
        - Visual representations are really helpful
        - Stare until they realize they’re doing something wrong
        - Set the rules the first day, and FOLLOW THEM (start hard then lighten up)
        - BE FLEXIBLE
